Southern Tasmanian Regional Land Use Strategy review
The Southern Tasmania Regional Land Use Strategy (STRLUS) guides strategic land use and development in the Southern Tasmania region.
The current STRLUS was first created in 2011, and most recently amended in 2025. Since the creation, some changes have been made to the Tasmanian planning system. Conditions within the region have also changed, such as population growth and housing availability, and it is important that the STRLUS helps guide what future Southern Tasmania looks like. This means it’s time to review and update the STRLUS.
The Tasmanian Government, the Southern Steering Committee and Working Group, and councils in the region have been working collaboratively to progress a full review of the STRLUS.
Councils in the region include:
Review process
Until early 2025, the review process was managed by the Southern Steering Committee and Working Group in collaboration with the Tasmanian Government and councils in the region.
Significant progress in the review process was made, and an early draft of the updated STRLUS was delivered. After this, the STRLUS Steering Committee decided to transfer management of the STRLUS review process to the State Planning Office.
The State Planning Office will now complete the remainder of the review and provide a final draft updated STRLUS to the Minister for consideration.
See the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for an overview of the region, the STRLUS, and its review process.
